Emotions--Do They Get in the Way or Help?

Image
Ever wonder why you make the decisions you do? Do you ever find yourself making the similar choices over again, even if you weren’t happy with the result the last time? It’s possible that you are being driven by underlying emotions, or feelings you have buried alive. Maybe you were hurt by a blond man but desired his love. You find yourself disregarding any brown-haired male who seeks your attention, determined to make a blond man fall for you. Maybe you had a rough childhood and so you’re afraid of repeating the same mistakes your parents made that you avoid commitment, or maybe you have kids in an effort to right your upbringing. You can even get yourself “locked into a rut” because you FEAR the unknown. You may not even know why.  Most of us know the expression “you marry your father”.  If you look at your husband closely you may find that to be the case.  Why is that?  According to one source, there are a few reasons. The first one mentioned being familiarity.  T

The Importance of Making Time for You

We all have a list of responsibilities pages long--that's if we had time to actually write a to-do list.  It's true, isn't it? Life is busy, even beyond busy.  So how do you prioritize? Well, no one can tell you what needs to get accomplished first, second, third, and so on, except for you.  You know what needs  to be done.   In my journey to self-discovery, I've found that everything that needs to get done always does, but it's not necessarily on the timetable I had originally pegged for it.  So what can be taken away from this?  Why stress yourself out to the point of blocking good energy in your body with the negative? When you stress about reaching a target date, isn't it true, it becomes a burden? In fact, if you're like me, sometimes, these to-dos get pushed back.  Procrastination takes a front seat. What good does that accomplish?  While goals are needed to guide us--notice guide --they shouldn't be rigid. Ask yourself this q

"If I pay with my life, you will pay with yours." Defense Attorney Bryan Lexan may have just taken on the case which will cost him his life. When his client, a Russian mafia boss, is convicted of first-degree murder, he vows to make Bryan pay. Meanwhile, Jessica Pratt has always prided herself on being a modern woman–you know, the kind who doesn't need a man to make her feel complete. So when she finds herself torn between two, she realizes that not all decisions are based on facts. If they were, her boyfriend, Bryan, would be the logical choice. He has the family name, wealth, and a stake in a successful law firm. Only thing is, when she meets Mason Freeman, the chemistry between them is irrefutable and he won't take no for an answer. With both of them caught up in a struggle for survival, and a powerful enemy on their heels, they'll need to decide where their loyalties lie.  What reviewers are saying: “Carolyn Arnold...continues the trend

Chocolate is Good for Your Heart

Image
Yes, you read the title correctly!  The good news is studies show that dark succulent treat we eat to satisfy a craving, or for emotional comfort is actually healthy for us. This is good news for us and for my character Madison Knight * .  She loves her Hershey bars. What exactly is chocolate--besides what many term a 'guilty pleasure'? It’s probably not a question you’ve given tremendous thought to.  At least I know I never did before, but chocolate is derived from plants and actually contains many of the health benefits that come with dark vegetables. What are the health benefits of dark chocolate? - it contains antioxidants which protects the body from aging and protects the heart from disease - lowers blood pressure - lowers cholesterol Chocolate also has the ability to provide a feeling of pleasure, act as an anti-depressant, and stimulate you as caffeine does. And, another bonus with chocolate?  It’s low in fat. Why should you choose dar

Here are what reviewers are saying: “Carolyn Arnold...continues the trend of writing exciting stories that keep your attention throughout...Life Sentence is a thriller all the way...Arnold never disappoints.” —Barb, The Reading Cafe “Though unique in her own right, author Carolyn Arnold is a masterful blend of such greats as Shirley Jackson (horror), Joseph Finder (thrills), and Janet Evanovich (humor and romance). Life Sentence is powerful and gripping, with so many twists and turns it left me gasping...” —Betty Dravis "Life Sentence" provides enjoyable entertainment from an author who clearly knows how to keep her readers engrossed in a story..."
